Yaa Gyasi (Mampong, Ghana, 1989) moved to the United States with her parents and two brothers when she was two years old. After some changes of residence (Ohio, Illinois, Tennessee), the family finally settled in Huntsville, Alabama. In 2009, while Gyasi was studying Literature at Stanford University, she obtained a research fellowship and returned for a few months to her country of origin. Homegoing, her first novel, was conceived during that journey. Gyasi completed the writing of the work –nominated for a prestigious Dylan Thomas Award– at the University of Iowa’s Creative Writing Workshop. She currently lives in Berkeley, California and her most recent book is Transcendent Kingdom (2021).
