(Madrid, 1951) Singer, actor and film director. One of the most complete artists on the Spanish cultural scene since the 1960s. She debuted as an actor aged 13, in Zampo y yo, and trained in the theatre under directors such as Miguel Narros and William Layton. She achieved celebrity with La pequeña Dorrit on TVE and, from the early 1970s, played major roles in films such as El amor del capitán BrandoSonámbulos, Demonios en el jardín, La corte de Faraón, El vuelo de la paloma, Tirano BanderasAdiós, pequeñaEl amor perjudica seriamente la salud, Cosas que hacen que la vida valga la pena and series such as Fortunata y Jacinta. In 1990 she directed her first film, Cómo ser mujer y no morir en el intento. At the same time, she has had an impressive career as a theatre actor and singer, on her own and with Víctor Manuel. Her most famous songs include El hombre del piano, España, camisa blanca, Lía, Desde mi libertad, A la sombra de un león, Peces de ciudad, Solo le pido a Dios, Derroche, Agapimú, La muralla and, together with Víctor Manuel, La puerta de Alcalá. She has received numerous accolades during her career, including a Gold Medal from the Spanish Film Academy, an award of honour, with Víctor Manuel, at the Latin Grammys and a Goya of Honour which she received at the Film Academy’s award ceremony held in February 2017. This year she has returned to television, starring in Traición, a TVE series.
