Santiago Beruete has degrees in both Anthropology and Philosophy. He earned his doctorate in Philosophy with a dissertation entitled Los jardines de la utopía: ética, estética y política. For the past three decades he has lived on the island of Ibiza, where he combines teaching and research with writing. He has produced several collections of poetry, as well as short stories, novels and essays that have won national and international awards. His books Jardinosofía (Una historia filosófica de los jardines), Verdolatría (La naturaleza nos enseña a ser humanos), Aprendívoros (El cultivo de la curiosidad) and Plan(e)ta (Un trozo de tierra) are the result of a cross-pollination of literature, gardening, philosophy and education. The garden as a visual metaphor for a good life and a symbol of a cultivated mind presides over this body of work, to which a new title has recently been added: Filosíntesis (Espiritualidad y filosofía desde el jardín). His work has been translated into French, Italian, Chinese, and Arabic.
