Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez (1946), Cuban singer-songwriter and artist, is a key figure in the Nueva Trova movement. After training in music and drawing from a young age, he grew into his vocation during his military service and made his public debut in 1967, participating the following year in the movement's founding concert at Casa de las Américas. He joined the ICAIC's Grupo de Experimentación Sonora, released his first album, Días y flores, in 1975, and has since had a prolific career with an extensive discography, international tours and music for film and theatre. He has received numerous awards and several honorary doctorates, spearheaded cultural projects such as the Abdala and Ojalá studios, and maintained a strong social commitment reflected in community concerts and the Gira por los Barrios (2010–2020). In the last decade, he has continued to receive significant national and international honours.
