Jemma WADHAM

Jemma is Professor of Glaciology and Director of the Cabot Institute for the Environment at the University of Bristol. She researches the biogeochemical impacts of melting glaciers and ice sheets at local, regional and global scales. Her research is field-based and has taken her all over the world including the Greenland Ice Sheet, Chilean Patagonia, the Andes, Himalaya and Antarctica. She is known for her cross-disciplinary approach, and particularly her collaborations with technologists to develop enabling technologies for the exploration of extreme icy ecosystems. She is currently leading a UK-Peru team via the NERC/CONCYTEC funded project - CASCADA: Toxin or Treat?, which aims to understand the downstream impacts of melting Peruvian glaciers upon river water quality and local communities. She is a holder of a Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award for her project Biogeochemical Impacts of Glacier Melting.
