Muriel BARBERY

barbery-muriel Born in Casablanca in 1969, she studied at the École Normale Supérieure de Fontenay-Saint-Cloud, obtaining her Philosophy diploma in 1993. She lectured on that subject at the University of Burgundy, as well as at high school level and at the Saint-Lo teacher training college. She obtained a residency at the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, a city where she lived for two years. She is the author of Gourmet Rhapsody (2000), winner of the Meilleur Livre de Littérature Gourmande award; The Elegance of the Hedgehog, (Europa, 2008), which was translated for publication in 44 countries, won the French Booksellers’ Prize and was made into a film; The Life of Elves (Europa, 2015), A Strange Country (Europa, 2019) and Une rose seule (Actes Sud, 2020).
