Ana Luísa AMARAL

Ana Luísa Amaral is a poet, novelist, translator and literary critic. Her books have been translated and published in countries including Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Sweden, the Netherlands, Venezuela, Italy, Colombia and Mexico. She has translated Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare and John Updike. Among the many distinctions and awards she has received are the Medals of Honour of the cities of Paris and Porto, the Correntes d’Escritas Literary Prize, the Giuseppe Acerbi Poetry Prize, the Grand Poetry Prize awarded by the Portuguese Writers’ Association, the International Poetry Award given by the Fondazione Roma and the PEN Fiction Prize. She lectures at Porto University, with research specialities in the areas of Comparative Poetics, Feminist Studies and Queer Theory. In 2020, a book of essays on her work will come out in the United Kingdom (Poetry, Beauty and Resistance in Ana Luísa Amaral, Ed. Claire Williams).
