Here are all our events for families, children and young adults. Select events from our Programme for Schools or our traditional families programme, there is also a selection of interactive workshops to enjoy.
Programme for Schools events and workshops will be free to replay for the duration of the festival and then free on Hay Festival Anytime.
Valentine is the 2017 Hay Festival International Fellow and a multi award-winning author of YA fiction. Her novels include Finding Violet Park and Fire Colour One. The Welsh novelist is attending all Hay Festivals for one year, working with young people to give a voice to their concerns and present a manifesto for adolescence. In this session, she explores ways in which teenagers might be better understood and empowered.
The Dutch author explains how he writes and how he chooses certain words. Is it really true that you can write something down without actually writing it down? Come and explore the magic of writing.

The film version of The Little Prince was inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic children’s book from 1943. In the film, a mother attempts to prepare her young daughter for an academic future on a very tight schedule. Follow the girl’s magical and adventurous journey when she rediscovers the importance of following one’s heart.

Three writers whose work is included in the anthology Quest talk to Manu Sareen about their tales and discuss the central themes. The stories are: The Great Book Escape by Ævar Þór Benediktsson (Iceland), The Travel Agency by Maria Turtschaninoff (Finland) and Between the Trees by Katherine Woodfine (UK).
