Antony Gormley talks to Tim Marlow

NEW EVENT

Hay Festival 2009,
This summer, sculptor Antony Gormley is inviting everyone from across the UK to help create an astonishing living monument. He is asking people to occupy the empty Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in London, a space normally reserved for statues of Kings and Generals. They will become an image of themselves, and part of a portrait of the United Kingdom now. Over the last 25 years, Antony has dedicated himself to an exploration of the body as a place of memory and transformation, often using his own body as his subject, tool and material. Here he talks about his work and this summer’s groundbreaking new project, One and Other.
