OBE and winner of the Booker Prize with Amsterdam has stood out for decades as one of the most acclaimed and personal voices of British literature. His novel Atonement was recently adapted for the big screen with great success. McEwan is also well known for his defence of freedom of speech. He talks to Peter Florence, director of Hay Festival of Literature.
