At this event we bring together museologists and writers to talk about the new joint project involving the British Museum’s Santo Domingo Centre (SDCELAR) and the International Hay Festival. As part of this project, ten Latin American authors were invited to write short texts, either fiction or personal, on museum items. This initiative stimulates the recontextualization of museum collections, using sensitivity and imagination over and above empirical knowledge. At this discussion, the guests will talk about the relationships between literature and anthropology, as well as the relevance of the arts in the world and museums. With Nicola Levell, curator, writer and associate professor of museum and visual anthropology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver; Cristina Lleras, curator of the National Museum of Memory at the National Centre for Historical Memory in Bogota; and Anthony Shelton, Director of the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia.
