International Aid, What Next?

Hay Festival 2025,

On the 40th anniversary of Live Aid a new three part BBC series – Live Aid at 40: When Rock N Roll Took On The World – will tell the story of Bob Geldof’s astonishing feat.

Today when governments are drastically cutting budgets for international aid join us for a first peak at the series and a thought-provoking discussion on the legacy of Live Aid and its successor Live8.

Bob Geldof, musician and Chairman of the Band Aid Trust and the 8Miles investment fund for Africa will be joined by Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations from 2021 to 2022, and Ayisha Osori, Human Rights Lawyer and Director of the Open Society Foundations Ideas Workshop. This event will be chaired by the BBC's Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet.
