Before becoming Pope Leo XIV, Robert Francis Prevost (USA/Peru) had been a quiet but important figure in the Peruvian church. He spent 40 years in the country, from his early days in the Augustinian mission in Chulucanas, to his appointment as Bishop of Chiclayo.
