Three writers of great distinction and differing writing experience have just published their first novels. The actor Nigel Planner has published poetry, the non-fiction best-seller A Good Enough Dad and the brilliant satire I, Actor. His debut novel is The Right Man. Emily Perkins won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize for her short story collection Not Her Real Name. Her novel Leave Before You Go is set in her native New Zealand.
