Consciousness
Hay Festival 2003,
Human consciousness is unique in it's ability to roam in time and space, to conjure up non-existant worlds and to place itself 'indise' the mind of others. It is these extraordinary faculties that allow us to enjoy art, to read and understand books and to recognise why other people behave as they do. Research into the biological bases of consciousness is starting to reveal the brain mechanisms that generate our imaginative capacity.
