Margaryta Yakovenko was born in Tokmak (Ukraine) in 1992, although she has lived in Spain since the age of seven. She studied Journalism at the University of Murcia and completed a Master’s degree in International Political Journalism at Pompeu Fabra University. She has worked as a reporter and editor at PlayGround, El Periódico de Cataluña and La Opinión de Murcia. She currently works at El País. She published the short story No queda tanto in the anthology Cuadernos de Medusa (2018). Her first novel, Desencajada (2020), was awarded the Gaudí Gresol Prize for Literature in 2022 and the Mandarache Prize in the main category in 2023, and has been translated into Italian and Polish. Ocupación is her latest work.
