Malena MARTÍNEZ

martinez-malena (Lima, 1978) Studied medicine at the San Martín de Porres University, and upon completion of her studies she carried out rural service at the Iquitos Naval Clinic, in the Loreto region of the Amazon. Later she studied Nutrition and Food Industries at the University of San Francisco (United States) and at the La Molina National Agricultural University. In 2015, together with her brother and chef, Virgilio Martínez, she created Mater, an interdisciplinary research and interpretation centre that records and disseminates Peru's megadiversity and links gastronomy with science, the arts, human knowledge and local crafts. Mater is a key player in the development and creation of the culinary concept of the renowned Central restaurant, and nurtures the concepts of cuisine and identity of the Kjolle restaurant in Lima, and Mil in Cusco. As the Director of Mater, she designs and leads different projects and actions for the teams in Lima and Cusco.
