Verónica Durán Castello studied Political Science and Literature at the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) and has earned three master’s degrees: a Master’s in Investigative, Visual, and Data Journalism (Unidad Editorial), a Master’s in Immigration and Development Cooperation (Francisco de Vitoria), and a Master’s in Journalism from the EFE News Agency. A journalist with extensive experience in migration, art, and culture. She has created and produced several projects in Spain, Colombia, and the United States, including the magazine ‘Fusión Latina,’ ‘Nuevos Rostros de Madrid,’ ‘100 Latinos Madrid,’ ‘100 Latinos Miami,’ ‘100 Colombianos,’ and ‘100 Españoles,’ among others. As a journalist, she has contributed to the newspaper El Tiempo and the magazine Semana (Colombia), and in Spain to the EFE News Agency, the newspaper Expansión, and El Confidencial. For the past 25 years, she has been studying and collecting Manila shawls, her great passion. In 2024, she held two exhibitions in Madrid (Spain) featuring these shawls, and currently, part of her collection is in Manila, Philippines, where it is on display in the exhibition “Mezcla, interwoven cultures and the Manila shawl” at the Ayala Museum. She has also written the book The Manila Shawl Route: The Happy Union Between Asia, Latin America, and Spain.
