Nazareth Castellanos holds a degree in Theoretical Physics and a PhD in Neuroscience from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She has been engaged in scientific research for over twenty years and has spent the last decade studying the impact of breathing on neural dynamics. She has worked at European universities such as King’s College London and the Max Planck Institute in Germany. She heads a laboratory investigating the neuroscience of meditation and the relationship between the brain and the rest of the body. She combines this research work with science communication and has published, amongst others, the essays The Mirror of the Brain and The Neuroscience of the Body. In her book The Bridge Where Butterflies Dwell, which has sold over 120,000 copies, she demonstrates how neural plasticity gives us the opportunity to transform ourselves from within.
