Sir Alex Ellis has been His Majesty's Ambassador to Spain and Andorra since September 2024, a post he assumed following a long diplomatic career that includes serving as High Commissioner to India, Ambassador to Brazil and Portugal, and Director-General of the department responsible for the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union. Having joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in 1990, he has held posts relating to security, strategy, foreign policy and European affairs in various postings and organisations, including the European Commission.
