Alvaro Bisama (Valparaíso, 1975) is a writer and doctor of Literature. His novels include Caja negra (2006), Estrellas muertas (2010), Ruido (2012) and El brujo (2016); he has also published works of non-fiction such as Cien libros chilenos and Deslizamientos. He wrote Mala lengua, about the poet Pablo de Rokha and La rabia y el augurio, about the novelist Carlos Droguett. He was selected by the Hay Festival for the Bogotá39 list in 2007 and has won the Municipal Literature Prize and the Academia Prize (given by the Chilean Academy of the Language) for Estrellas muertas, as well as the prize for Best Work of Literature, given by the Chilean Ministry of Culture for Ruido and Mala lengua (2021). His latest publication is the novel Oráculo (2025, Seix Barral). He is currently the head of the School of Creative Literature at the Diego Portales University.
