(Colombia) Since 2007, Ricardo Ávila has been the editor ofthe business and economics newspaper Portafolio, the leading figure of thisfield in Colombia. He also acts as sub-editor of the opinion section for ElTiempo as well as periodically consulting for several international entities. As an economics graduate of the University Javeriana inBogota and a Master of economics for the University of Pittsburgh, USA, Ricardo Ávila has held pivotal roles in the public sector of his country and on amultilateral scale. His journalistic careers started at La Revista NuevaFrontera and continued at La Revista Semana as an editorial adviser, economicsand business editors and international correspondent for the US and France foralmost 10 years. At the start of the current century he became the chief editorof the newspaper Cambio and remained so until 2007. He has also been the winner of the Simón Bolivar Prizeand has acted as a Professor of Economics in the Schools of Economic Journalismand Social Commication at the University Javeriana. He is also an author of twobooks: “Más futuro que presente: la crisis mundial y América Latina a la luz delos avances del pasado medio siglo”, and “América Latina y el efecto dominó”, publishedby Editorial Planeta at the end of 2209 and 2010 respectively.
