José María DE AREILZA

José M. de Areilza Carvajal holds a PhD in Law from Harvard University, is Secretary General of the Aspen Institute Spain, and is a full professor and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair at ESADE. He is also a visiting professor at London Business School. He has published extensively on European integration, Spanish and European foreign policy, and geopolitics. He has been a visiting professor at INSEAD, Fontainebleau; the National University of Singapore; the College of Europe, Natolin; and the William and Mary School of Law, Virginia. From 2023 to 2025, he was editor-in-chief of the journal ‘Política Exterior’. He has worked as an adviser on European and North American affairs in the Office of the President of the Government of Spain. He writes a weekly column on international affairs for ABC. He is a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, vice-president of the Spain-United States Council Foundation, Academy Faculty at Chatham House, London, and chairs the working group at the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies (CESEDEN) responsible for the annual publication of its Strategic Panorama
