Half term is for making memories – a family guide to Hay Festival 2023

One of the things that people really notice about a visit to Hay Festival is the relaxed, happy and optimistic feel. A place where imaginations roam and you can be who you really are.

Families that visit the Festival this year will be able to soak up the positive energy and make some amazing memories. Enjoying the freedom and creative vibes across the festival site, whether you come for the day or stay for longer.

So, if you are already planning for the May half term then here are our top tips for memory making at the festival.

Be inspired

For any book loving family we’ve shared many stories that have captured our imaginations and taken us away to another world. Imagine if you could meet the brilliant minds behind the books. Writers, illustrators, presenters, comedians, performers, astronauts, dinosaur experts and musicians. Imagine finding out what inspired their stories and picking up some tips about how to write your own. Book early as tickets are selling fast.

Make and Do

Next stop, book a slot in our make and take tent. Two and a half hours in our palace of creativity. Learn new artistic skills and take your artworks home, play, have fun and get messy or take some quiet time to read and recharge. Our zoned Make and Take tent offers a range of different activities to satisfy your mood and keep everyone in your family happy. We limit the numbers to ensure the very best experience for everyone. And, all of the materials are recycled so it's good for the planet too.

Book your slot now, £5 per child and adults play for free!

Get involved

Want to get really serious about your creativity then look no further.  We’ve got a series of workshops running throughout the week that will inspire creative brains, make memories, and spark ideas for their future.

For dynamic adventurers we’ve got Bollywood dance workshops and Samba with Oti Mabuse plus film making, animation workshops, sonic poetry, forest school, live music, radio production and relaxing wildlife walks in the beautiful countryside.
