Eduardo Mendoza

Segovia 2015,

Eduardo Mendoza published his first novel forty years ago. Set just after WW1, La verdad sobre el caso Savolta (The truth about the Savolta case) marked a turning point in Spanish contemporary literature, exploring Catalan identity as well as the revolutionary ferment that would erupt two decades later. To celebrate the book’s anniversary, it is being republished under the original title, Soldados de Catalonia, considered too sensitive in the final months of the Franco era. The author discusses the novel and his work with literary critic Tomas Val.
