Darrel McLeod is a writer who was Chief Negotiator of Land Claims for the Canadian federal government and Executive Director of Education and International Affairs with the Assembly of First Nations before becoming a writer. His autobiographical work Mamaskatch (2018) tells the story of his Cree family and community and the experiences of trauma and abuse that they have been submitted to by centuries of colonial history. Mirza Mendoza (Mexico) is an anthropologist, cultural manager and ethnographic researcher who has studied indigenous cultural expressions in Mexico and, more specifically, in Querétaro State. Yásnaya Elena Aguilar has a Master’s in Linguistics from UNAM, and writes in Mixe, Spanish and English, and works on projects for the preservation of Mixe languages. She is the co-author of the anthology Tsunami on feminism in Mexico. They will talk to Ingrid Bejerman about the past and future of first nations in Mexico and Canada.
