Hernando García and Mauricio Diazgranados in conversation with Mónica Fonseca

Eating, healing and creating: the power of plants and fungi of Colombia

Colombia Digital 2021,

The journalist, blogger and United Nations Environmental Ambassador, Mónica Fonseca, talks to Hernando García, Director of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute, and to Mauricio Diazgranados, head of the research team at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, UK. Colombia has the second richest biodiversity in the world, with around 26,000 registered plant species, of which 5,803 are reported to have possible uses. The diversity of fungi may be just as great, but not as explored. This biodiversity and its uses represent a great opportunity for the country’s green development. Taking some examples from the Useful Plants and Fungi of Colombia project run by Kew together with the Humboldt Institute, we will analyse how science, community work and technology can help to resolve some of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. This event includes the the participation of the UK ambassador to Colombia, Colin Martin-Reynolds.

This event is in English.
