Carmen Maria Machado (United States) has established herself as an author changing the ways in which fiction is read and written in the 21st century. She is the author of the bestseller En la casa de los sueños (2021), which she will talk about on this occasion with Gloria Susana Esquivel, as well as the award-winning collection of stories Su cuerpo y otras fiestas (2018). Her essays have been published in publications such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, Granta and Harper’s Bazaar, among others. She has been shortlisted for the National Book Award and won the Bard Fiction Prize, a Lambda literary award, in the categories Lesbian Fiction and LGBTQ Non-fiction; the Shirley Jackson Award; the Brooklyn Public Library Award; and the John Leonard Award given by the National Book Critics Circle. She lives in Philadelphia and is an artist-in-residence at the University of Pennsylvania.
