Screening and workshop with playwright Shaul Ezer

Who gets to tell a story—and whose name survives it? In Shaul Ezer’s imaginative take on the Shakespeare authorship question, Christopher Marlowe’s encounters with a Moroccan diplomat open up an alternative literary history filled with espionage, political intrigue and unexpected connections. Written by Ezer and directed by Jen McGregor, the play uses humour and historical speculation to explore authorship, translation and the stories we inherit.

Join us at the Texas Theatre for a full screening of the stage production, followed by an interactive workshop and conversation with Ezer. Drawing on the play, he will discuss his writing and adaptation process: turning research into characters and dialogue, bringing historical figures to the stage, and finding room for invention within the gaps in the historical record.

Audience questions will help shape the discussion, offering an opportunity to explore the creative choices behind the work and how familiar stories can be reimagined for contemporary audiences.
