Gravitational Waves for Breakfast

Hay Festival 2014,
News that the Dark Sector Lab near the South Pole had detected indirect evidence of Gravitational Waves caused huge excitement throughout the scientific world. Gravitational Waves are ripples in space-time from the first trillionth of a second of the universe when the universe was squeezed smaller than a tennis ball, and were predicted in 1916 by Albert Einstein in his theory of general relativity.

The Astronomer Royal explains what's been observed, how it's interpreted, why it may be wrong, and why cosmologists are so excited.
