The work of the inimitable multidisciplinary artist Hubertus von Hohenlohe brings us closer to the pulse of contemporary society with extreme precision. Not only because his usual setting is the bustling city of the 21st century, but because his pieces reveal a complex layering of strata that blend reality and fiction, public space and privacy, vanity and distinction; in any case, it helps us understand the beauty and potential of our surroundings. His recognisable self-portraits in urban settings foreshadow the narcissism that floods social media; he anticipated the rise of the smartphone selfie, a form of photography as an experience of place that has accelerated thanks to ubiquitous immediacy. Always with his camera around his neck, the artist acts as a flâneur who seeks and at the same time finds himself in the reflections of the street.
