Publishing has never been so easy: there are many companies that will print your book for a fee, eliminating the role of editor as filter and intermediary between the author and the reader, creating a false appearance of direct accessibility between the two parties. Publishing has never been so difficult: there are more authors and manuscripts and less awareness of what the role of an Editor (with a capital E) really is.
