When Rosa Chávez Yacila (Peru) wrote Las nerviosas, she was writing about her mother and the women in her family; about bodies made for domestic labour; about immaterial heritage; about ancestors who never found the space to heal their wounds. Women who are melancholy, “nervous”, from a grief that seems to go from generation to generation. Because there were always other priorities. Because the link between poverty and mental health is not a matter in question, but something obvious to see. The novel’s author will talk to Fedra Rodriguez Pissano.
