Peru global, co-edited by Alberto Vergara and Adrián Lerner, is the first volume in a series that aims to explain Peru in relation to the wider world. Around twenty researchers analyse key moments in the country’s history, situating each of these events within the broader global narrative. This is because no country exists in isolation and because, at times, to grasp the specific, one needs to understand the bigger picture, with its global context and underlying causes. The political scientist and author Alberto Vergara will speak to Fernando Rondinel Diaz about how a global historical perspective can provide a better understanding of Túpac Amaru, independence, the war with Chile, Asian migration, Flora Tristán, Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre and José Carlos Mariátegui.
