The Entrelazarnos: Märchenstunde Mis Cuentos de la Isla project is an initiative led by the Casa Cultural Colombo Alemana in the four towns of the island of Tierra Bomba. This project generated creative experiences with women community leaders, children and young people. At this event, Jesús Herrera Babilonia (Colombia), an educationalist, historian, psychologist and cultural manager at the Casa Cultural Colombo Alemana, will talk to Vincent Taborda about the experiences of those involved in the process of creating stories with an island theme.

How much do you know about your territory? This workshop seeks to create individual awareness about the role that the person has within their community. It will involve an exercise in introspection, asking participants to reflect on their identities, personal histories and their place in the community. It will also involve activities linked to self-esteem and personal recognition, in order to reinforce the feeling of belonging, through creative writing exercises. With the participation of the reading mediator Brillith Sossa Wilches (Colombia).

In the last decade, Latin America has shown itself to be a region that leads in terms of racial justice and the fight against racism, with a wave of collective actions. We talk about them and their territorial characteristics with Bocafloja (Mexico), an interdisciplinary artist and curator who, in his work, tackles themes such as critical race theory, the Global South, coloniality and the African diaspora in Latin America; Tanya Hernández (United States), a specialist in comparative racial relations and anti-discrimination law, and author of Inocencia racial: desenmascarando la antinegritud de los latinos y la lucha por la igualdad; and Maricruz Rivera Clemente, founder of Corporación Piñones se Integra COPI and co-founder of Corredor Afro in Piñones in northern Puerto Rico, and activist against the discrimination of the Afro-descendent population. In conversation with Agustín Laó-Montes.

Melba Escobar talks to Colombian artists who are also cultural actors and managers. With Juan Diego Mejía, a writer who is very tuned into our times and a noted cultural manager: he founded and ran the Medellin University channel, Canal U, and directed Cultura Ciudadana and the Medellin Book and Culture Festival his most recent book is Y si acaso yo muero en la guerra. José Zuleta Ortiz directed the Libertad Bajo Palabra initiative (running writing workshops for convicts in Colombian prisons) for 15 years, and won the National Literature Prize for a novel published by the Ministry of Culture in 2022 with Lo que no fue dicho. His latest novel, Una versión de los hechos, tells the story of friendship among three characters.

All Sunday 2 February events will be free for people from the department of Bolívar. Complimentary tickets can be requested at the box office of the Hay Festival (Centro de Convenciones) showing your ID, between 27 Janaury and 2 February.
