Sowing knowledge. The experience of the Pichoncito publishing house

Teatro Arequepay
Read more
Textbooks play a crucial role in children’s development by helping them to understand the world around them and stimulating their innate curiosity. Since 2018, Pichoncito publishers (Peru) has been planting in children a love of books, stories and the cultural heritage of Peru, through books, toys, experiences and audio-visual content of the highest quality. In these years, they have published over 75,000 copies of around thirty children’s titles. Together with those who have guided this successful publishing project, we will explore the fascinating world of creating textbooks for children and we will discover how we can inspire children to love learning from an early age. This event is aimed at parents, educators, librarians and anybody interested in promoting an interest in reading and knowledge among young people. By Adriana Roca and Karina Villalba.

El árbol de la queñua es vida

Event with the children of the Hogar de Cristo association

Plaza San Francisco
Read more

Motivated by their successful experience at the 2022 HFA, at the music and dance workshops run by the Hogar del Cristo, the children and young people involved have created a musical work full of life. They invite us to the opening of El árbol de la queñua es vida. This is a show featuring Huayno music and which will involve the active participation of the audience. In this way, we will celebrate this great tree that represents life. This is a dramatic work that aims to underline all that is good about Mother Earth and remember that there were once queñua forests in the highest areas of Arequipa. By reviving the rituals of our ancestors –who knew well that Mother Earth must be respected and venerated, and understood that dance and music are food for the soul– we can better appreciate the relationship between art and nature. The musical is a call to be aware of the importance of native plants. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the streets of Arequipa were full of trees? Can we not dream of recovering those queñua woods in the city’s upper reaches? Together we can take the first steps to make this dream a reality. We enjoy the Huayno El árbol de la queñua es vida.

Presentation by Wendy Ramos

The story of the perronejo

Teatro Fénix - Escenario Gales / Llwyfan Cymru
Read more
Wendy Ramos presents a very special project, with her own texts and illustrations. In her book we can discover the story of a curious and affectionate character: a ball of thread that, from one moment to the next, can take on life and become a piece of something. This character, full of life and hope, needs to find its origin and its place in the world. So begins a journey of exploration, seeking its own identity. Over the course of the pages, this “something” asks everyone it knows what it is, and each one tells it something different; some say it is a dog, some a rabbit. This search is full of humour and reflection. When it meets a character that helps it resolve its conundrum of identity, it decides that it need not be one thing or another, but rather can be something completely new and different. At this event, the acclaimed Wendy Ramos will delight the public with the story Perronejo.
